J.M. is seeking representation for their debut crime novel, Opening the Bodies.

In 1894 Philadelphia, sharp-witted medical student Ella Harrison discovers the body she is examining is the victim of foul play. She partners with private detective Roxanne Slaughter and they soon uncover a citywide conspiracy that puts them both in grave danger.

​J.M. is a student at UC Riverside’s low-residency MFA, holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from the University of Chicago, and was a Tin House 2020 novel workshop recipient. They have worked in academics and finance, and their work has appeared in The Coachella Review, Litbreak Magazine, and The Copperfield Review. In 2022, Opening the Bodies was chosen as one of Launch Pad’s Prose Competition Top 50 manuscripts.

They are also a literacy advocate and live in Portland, OR with their partner and children.
